Chocolate Matzo Cake – And it doesn’t taste like cardboard!

Have I gotten your attention yet?

IMG_3953_a

I find it to be a real problem for matzo desserts (and Passover food in general) to taste edible. It’s quite difficult to achieve a taste that borders on something you might consider eating when you don’t keep kosher for Passover.

Liebster Award!

Hello everyone!

In this post I won’t be sharing another recipe, unfortunately…this one is a bit different.

A few days ago, I received a wonderful surprise from the magical blogosphere: a nomination for the Liebster Award. More specifically, I received this from The Peckish Kiwi, a fellow foodie. Thanks again!

LiebsterAward

I didn’t even know about this thing until after I saw the notification of receiving it. Actually, I saw the nomination, squealed in glee for a while, and then stopped to think, “wait a minute…I should probably know what this is really for…”

Focaccia Flatbread

This isn’t really a focaccia. It’s sort of like a giant cracker. And I mean that in the best way possible.

IMG_3651b

It’s not a pizza either, so I guess it’s like a flatbread? A focaccia flatbread? I think so, because all it’s got on top is olive oil, coarse salt, and rosemary.

See?

Simple and clean. And you’ll be happy to hear that from start to finish the whole process was about 20 minutes. 20!

Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies, My Favorite!

I have to say, I wouldn’t have expected it from myself, either. Oatmeal chocolate chip cookies are my favorite? What has this world come to?

IMG_3500

I know, I know. But rest assured, I don’t like healthy-tasting things, so these aren’t some sort of sugar-free, flax-raisin, whole wheat concoction. No way. We treat our desserts with respect around here.

Happy (Late) Pi Day! – Strawberry Pie

So, I know it’s not Pi Day. But it was…two days ago. And I didn’t have time to make any pie on the actual day, so I postponed it to yesterday. The actual writing of this post was then pushed to today because I made it last night. Aaand now you’re all caught up.

IMG_3339

I had never actually made a fruit pie before, but I have always wanted to make a strawberry pie. Strawberries just handle baking very well, I think. Raspberries, too. Maybe it’s a red-fruit-only club. Extremely exclusive, you’ve probably never heard of it.

Ridiculously Simple: Artichoke Pizza

IMG_3220

Remember that dough from yesterday? I know it was a long time ago, but think hard. That’s the dough my grandma makes, which is very basic and made up of only 5 ingredients. For these reasons she has affectionately nicknamed it “Batzek Klum“, which translates from Hebrew into “Nothing Dough”. You could also call it “Heidi Klum Dough”. Up to you.

Corn and Cheese Crossover Pastries

..so I’ve been favoring savory pastries lately. Sue me.

IMG_3104

I keep seeing these really pretty “crossover pastries” everywhere, and they just seem so darn beautiful. I’d been thinking about trying it for a while, but didn’t get around to it. Today, however, I made my own dough and got to work.

IMG_3101

Now, from what I’ve seen, crossovers are usually made with puff pastry dough. I found another one of my grandma’s recipes, this time for the dough. It is so easy to make it’s almost criminal, and you don’t even need a mixer. You just stir with your fingers and bam! dough. Also, there’s no egg in this recipe, except for the egg wash on top.

Savory Cheese Spiral

Every now and again, dinner gets boring.  That’s when you make a savory pastry.

IMG_2979a

“Why in the name of all that is chocolate would I make a savory pastry?” you ask. That is a good question. The answer? Just ’cause. Sometimes you need to break the sweetness. Try not to gasp.

This all came about when I was browsing the interwebs, and by interwebs I mean Pinterest.
